Isn’t it always a special occasion to play El Plantio?  Those of you who haven’t played there before and those who haven’t played there for quite some time can understand why.  Great course, good layout, good conditions and long time returnees all mixed to make it a good day.  Did these factors contribute to good golf and good scores though?Let’s see?
Individual Category 1
Yes it did with some better than average scores and two worthy winners.  Kirk Green, Iain Stewart and Graham Bathurst, 34 Stableford points are honourably mentioned along with Graeme Bradbury, 35 points and what a shame prizes didn’t extend to include you Terry Wallington with 38 points on this occasion. Many congratulations and so too the one/two who could only be separated by lower handicap. Well played:-
Winner : Greg Colclough : 39 points (handicap 14.1)
Runner-Up : Martin Hennessey: 39 points (handicap 15.1)
Individual Category 2
Some very good scores also came from the second division golfers and generally responding to the challenges of the golf course well.  Gerry Burton, 35 points, Sandy McDonald and Bob Lancaster, 36 points and missing out on the prizes, Lynne Hind’s 37 points was very good. Congratulations to all and especially to the top two with the winner equalling the best of the day along with the Category 1 golfers:

Runner-Up : Paul Best : 38 points

Team Competition
Standard Par for the straightforward Odds and Evens Team Format was 90 points and every Team achieved 90 points and upwards to 103 points so take a bow everyone and especially the handicapper!
Winners : Team 2 : 103 points
Jimmy Boggon, Iain Stewart, Kevin Sutton and Gerry Burton
Runners-Up : Team 8 : 101 points
Colin Walters, Steve Fitzpatrick, Aiden McCrory and Bob Lancaster
3rd Place : Team 12 : 99 points
Terry Wallington, Brian Wood, Sandy McDonald and Dave Hughes.

Other team scores were: Teams 7 & 11 = 98pts, Team 9 = 96pts, Teams 4 & 6 =95pts, Teams 3 & 10 = 93pts, Team 1 = 92pts, Team 5 = 90pts.

In form sharpshooters setting examples for all of us were Ken O’Keeffe, Hole 7; Aiden McCrory, Hole 14 and Dave Hughes, Hole 18 and converting for a ‘Two’ on Hole 7 was Ken O ‘Keeffe, and also Graeme Bradbury on Hole 7, Bob Lancaster, Hole 9 and Kirk Green were on target.

The rest of the fixtures for 2024 are pretty well booked up but please contact me to join a reserve list and straight away, should you have missed out as there are many occasions when we do have withdrawals and draw from that reserve list. There are still a few places, however, on Saturday 30 Nov’24 for our unique Platinum Fours Team Competition, a somewhat quirky event at  Las Ramblas with all sorts of surprises in store and Saturday 27 Dec’24 sees our final special event of the year at  La Finca and last qualifier for Race to La Finca points.
