03/10/24 FONT DEL LLOP

ARCHIVED RESULT FROM

Hola AMIGOS,
FONT del LLOP always provides us with a great golfing challenge and is such a wonderful venue boasting a well contoured layout and distinguished holes and the views are spectacular!  We are delighted to have presented this course to you, especially if it is your first time and appreciate your reciprocal support whether short or long term returnees, regulars and irregulars.  With a tricky wind, which we always seemed to play into, adding to the slopes how did you play? Let’s see?
Individual Category 1
Golfers in this Group played very well taking the conditions in their stride and returned some excellent scores. With 39 Stableford points and not making it into the prizes sums up the quality.  Honourable mentions are handed out to Colin Hynd, 36 points, Colin Walters and Mick Lynch, 37 points, Shane Bordier and Andy Duffield, 38 points and Dave Robinson, 39 points, many congratulations.  We are in awe of the Winning score though which puts this Amigo into the Forties Club and second and third scores weren’t too bad either!  Very well played:-
Winner : Brian Platt : 43 points (Yes forty three points from a handicap of 11.3!)
Runner-Up : Peter Cafferkey : 39 points (lower handicap 13.8)
Third Place : Glenn Sheil : 39 points (handicap 14.7)
Individual Category 2
Not quite matching the averages of the first category, some returns were good and some not so but well played everyone.  Honourable mentions, however, can be handed out to Gail Duffield, Mick Brook (especially), Gerry Burton and Liz Murty, 34 points and Sue Horsfield and Carol Brand, 35 points.  Congratulations are reserved for the stand out winners separated only by handicap values:-
Winner : Roger Wood :  38 points (Lower handicap of 19.9)
Runner-Up :  Chris Dunne : 38 points (Handicap 28.6)
Third Place : Harry Rice : 35 points (Lower handicap)
Team Competition
Expecting at least 108 points with 3 scores counting on every hole, with a little designated Player twist, half the 4-ball Teams surpassed this target and the others weren’t too far behind. Well done all of the combinations and handicapper:-
Winners : Team 1 : 127  points : (Category 1 Players)
Kirk Green, Andy Duffield, Peter Cafferkey and Dave Robinson
Runners-Up : Team 2 : 121 points : (Category 1 Players)
Colin Walters, Iain Stewart, Gail Duffield and Glenn Shiel
3rd Place : Team 13 : 117 points : (Category 2 Players)
Graham Booth, Harry Rice, Bea Van Rijn and Chris Dunne.
Other team scores were: Team 4 = 112pts, Team 4 = 110pts, Teams 9 & 10= 109pts, Team 8 = 106pts, Teams 3 & 6 = 104pts, Team 12 = 100pts, Team 11 = 99pts, Team 14 = 94pts, Team 7 = 87pts.
You target shooters were awesome with Bea Van Rijn, Hole 3, Peter Cafferkey, Hole 8 and Carol Brand, Hole 12 all closest to the Flags and sinking their putts for two’s!  Also Ron Weller, Hole 16 and Kirk Green, Hole 17 made up the Nearest the Pin prizes and Colin Walters ‘two’d’ on Hole 17.

And let me mention 4 prominent upcoming games:-
Saturday 30 Nov’24 sees an extra Competition sponsored by Liz McReynolds’ Platinum Property PLATINUM FOURS to be Played at Las Ramblas where you put together your own named teams of 4 under the title The Four …….s? A few drinks and tapas will follow the game where non-golfing partners are invited to the course. Are you a Four yet?
On Friday 27 Dec’24 at La Finca the winners of the year long Race to La Finca competition will be announced. A great occasion, a great course and great prizes on offer and we still have availability!
A first for Amigos is a visit to Desert Springs on Thursday 09 Jan’25. It’s not as far as you think, 1 hour 40 minutes and ‘doable’ in a day.  Bookings are strong but there are places available.
I am sure that most of you are aware of our Anniversary Cup Away Day to La Envia, Almeria, Hotel Spa and Golf. We are sure that most of you do but if you don’t check out all the details including itinerary and costings on the ‘anniversary cup’ webpages on the Amigos website. Places are at a premium now so please do study and register soonest to be assured of a place!  It’ll be quite the highlight of our Amigos Competition fixtures list for 2025.
And finally, thank you to the Organisers and Helpers, Harry Rice, Iain Stewart, Brian Platt, Dave Hughes, Bob Lancaster, Ron Weller, Terry Wallington and others not mentioned who presented todays event so well for you!
See many of you next week at Golf Altorreal?
Hasta luego
