Hola AMIGOS
What a great occasion Saurines turned out to be today; great weather for golf, good course but with iffy pace, slope and pin positions, lovely patrons and it was so nice to have Amigos not seen for a while fitting in so well that it seemed like we all played together yesterday!
How about the golf? Tough for some, Ok for most and highlighted with some stellar performances! Let’s see…
Individual : Category 1
Pretty much average but sometimes average is good enough to win a prize! These Amigos can be mentioned, Alan Kilminster and Mike Whisken, 32 Stableford points, and Andy Veasey, 33 points. There is no doubting the true golfing genius of this category’s winner, top of the whole pile and sole entrant into the Amigos Forties Club. Well played everyone.
Winner : Martin Clapp : 41 points
Runner-Up : Richard Farrell : 34 points
Individual : Category 2
Similar returns and averages as the first category and Yvonne Keohane, 34 points and Ron Weller and Steve Fitzpatrick, 35 points can be honourably mentioned but this division threw up worthy prize winners. Many congratulations:-
Winner : Gordon Hutchinson : 38 points
Runner-Up : Mel Prime : 37 points
Individual: Category 3
Still keeping up with the averages on the top two divisions, Sue Horsfield, 33 points is mentioned and Diane Nicholls and Chris Dunne, 36 points, honourably so. Fighting for top spot two Amigos could only be separated by goal difference but well played all.
Winner : Nigel Smith : 38 points (handicap 27.0)
Runner-Up : Caz Clarke : 38 points (handicap 28.0)
Team Competition
Not really knowing what to expect in terms of accrued bonus points, standard par without was 108 points so the podium placed Teams took real advantage of the format, in fact impressively so. Well played, as Teams, all Amigos.
Winners : Team 12 : 138 points
Martin Clapp, Ragnar Hilmarsson, Gordon Hutchinson and Gary Conway
Runners-Up : Team 13 : 133 points
Colin Walters, Alan Kilminster, Harry Rice and Chris Dunne
3rd Places : Team 9 : 130 points
Garry Elderbrand, Ron Weller, Malcolm Weaver and Diane Nicholls
Other team scores were: Team 6 = 127pts, Teams 7 & 8 = 126pts, Teams 5 & 10 = 123pts, Team 1 = 121, Team 3 = 114pts, Team 2 = 110pts, Team 4 = 109pts, Team 14 = 101pts, Team 11 = 98pts.
Getting the Start Sheets out this week proved extremely difficult with so much illness and injury around and everyone who went on the reserve list actually played. So, if you want to join us at El Valle, Thursday 13 Feb’25 and Las Colinas on 27 Feb’25 just make sure you contact us even if the register is showing full. Don’t forget too, that Amigos Mar’25 journey takes us to El Plantio, La Serena and Font del LLop!
We will shortly be re-contacting our Anniversary Cup Away Day Hotel and Golf Course with interim numbers so if you haven’t heard of the event yet and would like to know more please do review the appropriate webpages or contact me, soonest.
Thank you to the usual Organisers and Helpers who got through a tough week, Harry Rice, Iain Stewart, Brian Platt, Dave Hughes, Ron Weller, Mick Lynch and Mel Prime.
Looking forward to our next Golf Adventure.
Hasta luego
