Hola AMIGOS
What great weather we had for our visit to Villamartin and what a great course - but those greens were tricky 🤦♂️. Apologies for the rather 'overly aggressive' Marshall (I think Customer Service lessons would be in order there) but everyone else there was incredibly helpful and it is always a joy to visit one of our most popular courses. The scores showed that it wasn't just me who struggled reading line & pace on the greens although there were a few exceptions to that.
Category 1 : Individual
Honourable mentions go to Kirk Green (34 points) and Alan Kilminster (32 points) but the true accolades go to our two prize winners, one of which made it onto the Forties Club board. Congratulations:-
Winner : John Byrne: 40 points
Runner-Up : Mark Cocker : 35 points
Category 2 : Individual
Very similar scoring to Cat 1 with honourable mentions going to: Steve Fitzpatrick (32 points), Henrik Tonnisen (33 points) and Graham Booth (35 points but losing 2nd place on higher handicap). As with Cat 1, our winner excelled on this course and is clearly in a rich vein of form at the moment, achieving the second 'Forties Club' entry for this week and his second this year. Congratulations:-
Winner : Ron Weller: 40 points
Runner-Up : Mick Lynch : 35 points (15.3 handicap)
Category 3 : Individual
Not quite the quality of the previous categories but honourable mentions go to Rachel McKnight & Ros Hasting who each ,managed 32 points. No Forties Club entries from this category but congratulations go to:-
Winner : Gary Conway: 37 points
Runner-Up : Sandy McDonald : 33 points
Team Competition
This is a good social format but to beat the par of 72 points you need to both score well and gel well as pairs. All but 2 teams managed to achieve that with our 3 prize winning teams achieving scores in the high 80's. Another helpful factor is having your 'ghost' score 40 points on his own, see below. Congratulations:-
Winners : Team 11: 89 points
John Byrne, Alan Hinchcliffe, Graham Booth & Dave Cheney
Runners-Up : Team 4 : 87 points
Gary Joseph, Carolus Brand, Tom Duncan & ghost (John Byrne).
3rd Place : Team 13 : 86 points
Shane Bordier, Martin Hennessey, Mick Lynch & Ros Hastings.
Other team scores were: Team 7 = 84pts, Team 3 = 82pts, Team 10 = 78pts, Teams 1 & 12 = 77pts, Teams 2 & 5 = 76pts, Team 6 = 75pts, Team 9 = 72pts, Team 8 = 58pts.
Sharpshooters taking the NTPs were John Byrne, Hole 7; Damian Scholes, Hole 9, Graham Booth, Hole 17, and Damian Scholes again, Hole 18.
We had 5 * 2's this week, and once again this was spearheaded by an Eagle 2 on the 4th, by Steve Mullaney, congrats also go to Carolus Brand (6th), John Byrne (9th), Rick Sorsby (13th) & Graham Booth (17th).
We have no Amigos Golf next Thursday (Golden Bear week) but we return at Roda Golf on Thursday 22nd Feb, La Marquesa on Thursday 29th Feb and Alhama Signature on 7th March.
We have a very limited number of slots remaining for our Anniversary Cup event at San Juan, Alicante on 23rd May so if you have not booked yet then please do so as soon as possible.
Thank you to Harry, Iain, Mick & Ron for their help with the Villamartin game and to Graham for his help in the background & preparation. We wish Graham a speedy recovery from his minor op scheduled for next week and Emmett Loftus a quick return to health from the illness that kept him away from Villamartin.
Best Regards
Brian
