ARCHIVED RESULT FROM
Hola AMIGOS
So there we were on the Terrace at Golf Altorreal, a sea of red shirts, enjoying a drink and a chat and gossip bathed in glorious sunshine as the setting sun descended over the valley with Murcia in the distance and without a golf care in the world and yet so full of anticipation. But let’s not get carried away we were there to compete in an Amigos golf competition!
You usually tear golf courses apart when you are in the mood but did the favourable conditions and weather switch you on? Well No, the returned scorecards were not quite what was expected I’m afraid. Average would describe it albeit punctuated with a few stand out scores.
Category 1 : Individual and Team
Our elite Tour professional golfers had a collective modest ‘day at the office’ and mentioned are Phil Brookes and Mick Lynch, 32 points and honourably so Emmett Loftus and Colin Hynd, 34 points, well done. But congratulations go to our podium finishers who broke the mould with excellent scores and entry into The Forties Club, again, for the winner:-
Winner : Steve Fitzpatrick : 41 points
Runner-Up : Grahame Bradbury : 37 points
3rd Place : Iain Stewart : 35 points
Standard Par for today’s format was 108 points but who knew where bonus points would take the totals? I have to say though that the top two Teams made the most of what was on offer:-
Team Winners : Team 2 : 136 points
Jon Thompson, Grahame Bradbury, Iain Stewart and Graham Booth
Runners-Up : Team 1 : 133 points
Jez Pike, Brian Platt, Steve Fitzpatrick and Phil Brookes.
Other Cat 1 team scores were: Team 9 = 125pts, Team 5 = 118pts, Team 3 = 113pts, Team 11 = 106pts & Team 13 = 103pts.
Category 2 : Individual and Team
Again, some reasonable returns and 34 points seemed to be a popular number giving honourable mentions to Ros Hastings, Harry Rice, Simon Hastings, Sus Tonnisen and your 3rd Place, also on 34 points but on a lower handicap. Well done all. But your top two were the stand outs and the winner joins The Forties Club for his efforts too. Congratulations all in this category:-
Winner : Henrik Tonnisen : 41 points
Runner-Up : Graham Field : 38 points
3rd Place : Stan Lalley : 34 points.
Team Winners : Team 4 : 129 points
Henrik Tonnisen, Stefan Agten, Jean Liston & Lynne Hynd.
Runners-Up : Teams 8 & 6 : 111 points
Team 8: Sandy McDonald, Rudy Ceusters, Rita Jacobs & Rosalyn Hastings. Team 6: Sus Tonnisen, David Wells, An van den Borre & David Pearce.
Other Cat 2 team scores were: Team 10 = 105pts, Team 12 = 100pts & Team 7 = 99pts.
Successfully shooting for the money your sharpshooters were;-
Brian Platt, Hole 5; Graham Bradbury, Hole 8; Graham Booth, Hole 10 and Steve Jones, Hole 17
And, good follow throughs for Two’s were Graham Bradbury, Graham Booth and Steve Jones and joining them were Dot Jones and Stan Lalley on Hole 5. Good shooting guys.
Well played everyone else who played a part and please do check out The Forties Club virtual honours board, it’s a good read.
Next up is Altaona Village on Thursday 23 Nov’23 and whilst it is not everyone’s favourite course it adds variety to our tour and it has a great bar terrace for presentation and good food offerings. Watch out too for some special announcements there! Hopefully, Saturday 25 Nov’23 will see our Amigos v Sucina Golf Society matchplay competition and I will let you know more details soon.
I hope you enjoyed your day as much as we, Harry Rice, Iain Stewart, Brian Platt, Bob Lancaster, Terry Wallington and Ron Weller enjoyed presenting it to you, thank you. It was so good to see all of our infrequent returnees.
Golden Bear is next week so a break for us before Altaona, phew!
Hasta Luego
Graham
