23/11/23 ALTAONA
ARCHIVED RESULT FROM
Hola AMIGOS
It was really tough out there yesterday wasn’t it? Altaona seemed to get the better of you no matter whether you were local or a visitor, rookie or experienced golfer, Category 1 or Category 2 player and the fast greens and windy conditions conspired, and Medalford format caught many of you out? Some didn’t even like it! Altaona has been a much easier ride in the past but not anymore! But how did you play? Check out the webpage ‘results’ if you really want to know but the highlights are as follows:-
Category 1 : Individual
3 Amigos were the picks of the bunch, clearly, and rightfully took the podium places but let’s mention Shane Bordier and Ron Weller, when scores converted, 31 stableford points and honourably mentioned Iain Stewart and Sus Tonnisen, 33 points but many congratulations:-
Winner : Steve Jones, 38 points
Runner Up : Terry Wallington : 37 points
3rd Place : Henrik Tonnisen : 36 points
Category 2 : Individual
Out of 26 Golfers only 4 recorded more than 30 points! Newcomer, Steve Nicholls, 31 points was one of them, well done. And congratulations for making it into the prizes:-
Winner : Lynne Hynd : 35 points
Runner-Up : Harry Rice : 34 points
3rd Place : And Van Den Borre : 31 points (on lower handicap)
Team Competition
With the Medalford format of Holes 1-9, playing medal and Holes 10-18 playing stableford and expecting a below par score of 18 your combined efforts produced something close and with an exceptional first place and exceptional 13th place! Many congratulations to all who contributed and especially the leading groups:-
Winners : Team 10 : 14
Steve Jones, Mick Lynch, Rudy Ceusters and Guido Dupont
Runners-Up : Team 4
Ron Weller, Lynn Lalley, Simon Hastings and Ruud Woudstra
3rd Place : Team 6 : 20 (On lowest combined handicap)

You weren’t afraid of getting close to the Flags and the list of Targetshooters is long. Awesome shooting Stephen Day, Hole 3; Sus Tonnisen, Hole 8; Phil Doughty, Hole 11 and Kevin Sutton Hole 17 and good conversions for Twos were Stephen Day, Phil Doughty and Kevin Sutton joined also by Lucy Hole, Sam McReynolds and Mike Hough.
Playing golf is only one element in an Amigos event and we hope that you all enjoyed the companionship and camaraderie of both new and more regular Amigos?
A particular highlight of the afternoon was the introduction of Liz McReynold’s Platinum Property as new sponsor following the relocation of the Henshall-Browns to Altea in northern Alicante Province. We hope to establish a long working relationship with both Liz and Sam so watch this space closely for more announcements. And thank you for contributing to the NTP prizes.
The pre-Christmas competitions are getting fully booked but if you want to play Alhama Signature, El Valle, Villamartin and our New Year Golf Party on 28 Dec’23 at Roda Golf let us know quickly if you want to be considered and have not registered.
And for those playing in the Matchplay competition tomorrow at Hacienda Riquelme your dress code is RED or BLUE depending on your allocated Pairing.
Finally thank you to the Organisers, Iain Stewart, Harry Rice, Dave Hughes and Bob Lancaster and Helpers, Terry Wallington, Mick Lynch and Ron Weller and Brian Platt and watch out for his ‘Race to LA FINCA’ format and details, our new competition for 2024, culminating, naturally, at our La Finca Golf Party at the end of Dec’24.
Thank you all for your patience and continuing support.
Hasta Luego
Graham
