Hola AMIGOS
What a great return to Altaona Village today for our last but one Summer Swing Competition. It was so good to see so many new faces, returnees, regulars and irregulars. It was another hot summer’s day, I’ve never known it so hot for such a long consecutive period of time, have you? But how how hot was your golf?
Individual : Category 1
Only one opportunity to win an Individual competition prize today and as these guys were hot on the heels of our eventual winner they deserve to be honourably mentioned. Kersten Rammeloo, 34 points, Steve Hughes, Ron Weller and Ken O’keeffee, 36 points. Many congratulations:-
Winner : John Boyle : 37 points
Individual : Category 2
Not quite up to the average standard of the Category 1 players with only 3 players in the thirties. But it was tougher for us! Well done and honourably mentioned are Graham Field, 32 points, Peggy Gijsels, 33 points and sometimes this score just wins it! Many congratulations to our sole podium place finisher:-
Winner : Rick Sorsby : 34 points
Team Competition
108 points, standard par for 3 holes counting on every hole was a tough ask in the heat but one Team managed to exceed it by a sizeable margin, a good 8 points in fact! Well played that Team:-
Winners : Team 7 : 113 points
John Boyle, Nigel Horsfield, Steve Fitzpatrick and Steve Fletcher
Runners-Up : Team 2 : 105 points
Ron Weller, Stefan Agten, Rick Sorsby and Graham Platts
Other team scores were: Teams 3&4 = 102pts, Team 1 = 99pts, Team 5 = 98pts, Team 6 = 93pts.
And the Sharpshooters were good, really good this week with these guys coming up closest to the Pins. Dennis Lemke, Hole 3; Peggy Gijsels, Hole 8; John Boyle, Hole 11 and Billy Cashman on Hole 17. And plenty of two’s were recorded. Battering Hole 3 were John Boyle, Dennis Lemke and Ruud Woudstra and Billy Cashman on Hole 17.
Well played everyone else who supported the event, your presence always makes for a good competition.
The last Amigos Summer Swing Competition sees us travel to the very popular Golf Altorreal next Thursday 31 Aug’23 where the temperature drops a little, hopefully, and the tree lined fairways will be more pleasurable to play on. Amigos fixtures for 2024 will be announced then including regular competitions, new competitions, matchplay competitions and our Anniversary Cup Away Day Competition. Come and join us and be the first to know! La Finca pops up next on Thursday 07 Sep’23 where the Ryder Cup Captains, Annette Deeley and Steve Fitzpatrick will make the draw for their Team Europe and Team USA players.
No competition can be presented as smoothly as it does without the involvement of our Organisers, either on course or behind the scenes, Dave Hughes, Bob Lancaster, Iain Stewart and Brian Platt, many thanks.
It was a hot day but it was fun and always a pleasure to play on a local and developing golf course.
Hasta luego
Graham
