Hola AMIGOS
What a great post game location, the Lakeside Bar at La Torre, we found for you today and so pleased that you supported the prize winners in the sunshine and warmth of a typical January in Spain there! It was good to see new faces amongst the tables and chairs alongside our regulars, irregulars and returnees.
Was the weather conducive to good golf though? Well, let’s say that the lightening fast greens were quite a handful!
Category 1 : Individual
Some good returns with Steve Kavanagh and Reg Hole scoring 35 Stableford points and Lucy Hole and Klaus Hummel, 36 points, all very respectable and honourable. Congratulations to our podium finishes though with two joining the elite Amigos Forties Club!
Winner : Sam McReynolds : 40 points (lower handicap, 12.5)
Runner-Up : Hans Beque : 40 points (handicap 18)
3rd Place : Stuart Ellis : 37 points
Category 2 : Individual
When you were good you were very very good and great scoring by the 1-2-3, many congratulations and one more Forties Club entrant. Honourable mentions to the those with 35 points, Tina Hurst, Ron Weller, Andrew Smithurst and Dave Hughes and also to Bob Lancaster whose 38 points would have been a winning score most weeks!
Winner : Billy Cashman : 40 points
Runner-Up : Graham Field : 39 points
3rd Place : Rod Howarth : 38 points
Team Competition
We love a Waltz at Amigos, especially in 2-3-4 time when there is no place to hide and everyone has something to contribute! 108 Stableford points was standard par for this format and half the teams matched or exceeded this target with the others not that far behind, well done everyone. The winning team had an exceptional Hole 18 with ‘four’ scores counting and amassing 15 points was truly exceptional, congratulations.
Winners : Team 12 : 123 points
Brian Platt, Sam McReynolds, Roger Wood and Andrew Smithhurst
Runners-Up : Team 2 : 117 points
Lucy Hole, Jill Stapley-Harding, Rod Howarth and Billy Cashman
3rd Place : Team 6 : 112 points
Tam Bathe, Klaus Hummel, Graham Field and Nigel Smith.
Other team scores were: Team 5 = 110pts, Team 11 = 109pts, Team 9 = 108pts, Teams 1 & 4 = 106pts, Team 3 = 103pts, Team 10 = 102pts, Team 7 = 101pts, Team 13 = 100pts, Team 8 = 97pts.
Getting close to the flags was a challenge and with only 2 x ‘Two’s’ the slick, fast greens were undoubtedly the winners. However, Lucy Hole, Hole 2; Iain Stewart, Hole 6; Jill Stapley-Harding, Hole 10 and John Fox, Hole 14 overcame the conditions well as did Steve Kavanagh and Sandy MacDonald recording the only twos of the day. Many congratulations.
February sees us play in all different directions, Camposol, Thursday 01 Feb’24; Villamartin, Thursday 08 Feb’24, Roda Golf, Thursday 22 Feb’24 and La Marquesa on 29 Feb’24. Come and join us as we have reserved plenty of tee-times for you.
Not only have you played a round towards the Order of Merit trophy today but also Round 3 of our year long Race to La Finca Competition. Both major Honours Board Competitions rewarding Individual golfing prowess over different time periods. Brian Platt will explain all in detail at Camposol following January’s games as well as awarding some interim prizes. Check out the website for those details. Thank you to all the Amigos Organisers and Helpers today whose job was made slightly easier with no changes to the line up issued a week ago! That is quite remarkable. Finally we hope to issue you with an update on the Amigos Anniversary Cup Away Day to San Juan, Alicante very shortly.
Hasta luego
Graham
