25/11/21 VILLAMARTIN
ARCHIVED RESULT FROM
Hola Amigos
Thanks to everyone for supporting our Amigos game at Villamartin today, and a warm welcome to our two ‘Newbies’ Kevin Sutton & Rinus de Zwart. It was also great to see Garry Wilkinson, Rich Worsley & Tommy McDonnell returning to Spain and joining us at Villamartin. The course and the weather were absolutely superb with the quick and undulating (but very true) greens creating havoc for some of our putters.
It was most concerning to hear that Graham Field needed to be helped off the course by the Marshall after suffering a leg injury. I called in on Graham after the game and can report that he was firmly ensconced in a chair at home with his leg elevated and covered in ice. It is too soon to see quite how serious the damage is but clearly it is painful and we all wish him a speedy recovery and not too long a delay in getting back to playing golf 🤞.
There were some very good scores and some ‘not so good’ scores posted and one exceptional round played today. We split this weeks competitions (individual & team) into two categories with the lowest 20 handicap players going out first in category 1 (1 small exception due to Gordon needing to go out late due to another commitment)
Category 1 Individual
Honourable mentions go to: Sam McReynolds (34 pts), Mick Lynch & Mike Portlock (32 pts) but the best scoring of the day came from:-
Winner : Roger Wood : 42 points – a phenomenal score on a difficult course
Runner-Up : Paul Sawyers : 36 points
Third : Brian Platt : 35 points
Category 1 Team Competition
The Medalford format is always a challenge with a par score being 18 points and the objective being to score less than that. Two of the Cat 1 teams achieved that objective but the sharp-eyed amongst you will have noticed that all 3 individual prize winners were from one Team so it is no surprise that:-
Winners : Team 1 : 5 points : (Yes – that’s 13 under par)
Brian Platt, Dave Robinson, Roger Wood and Paul Sawyers
Runners-Up : Team 2 : 14 points :
Alastair Sporne, Michael Lynch, Phil Brookes and Mike Portlock
Other Cat 1 team results were: Team 5 = 24 pts, Team 3 = 30 pts, Team 4 = 33pts.
Category 2 Individual
Not quite as impressive as the Category 1 players but honourable mentions go to: Patrick Dumon, Hanne Johnslov, Harry Rice, Dave Cheney, Vince Mifsud (all 30 pts) 32 points but our prize winners were:-
Winner : Gordon Hutchinson : 35 points
Runner-Up : Guido Dupont : 34 points
Third: Rich Worsley : 33 points
Category 2 Team Competition
It was a much closer battle in the Cat 2 team comp with two teams beating the 18 points target and one other achieving that target:-
Winners : Team 7 : 15 points :
Dave Robinson (Snr), Vince Mifsud, Patrick Dumon and Guido Dupont
Runners-Up : Team 10 : 16 points :
Gordon Hutchinson, John Mair, Rich Worsley and Maria Verelst
Other Cat 2 team results were: Team 8 = 18 pts, Team 6 = 21 pts, Team 9 = 41pts.
Our only 2’s scorer was Roger Wood on hole 13 so a healthy €35 goes into our charity pot.
Please check out the website results page to see how you faired.
Our next game is next Thursday at La Torre and we still have some places available so please book asap if you want to play.
Hasta pronto
Brian
