Hola AMIGOS
What another great day at a new course for the Amigos and Alicante Golf certainly proved to be a popular venue, but those long trips between holes certainly justified the buggies - we will definitely be back here again in the future 👍. We welcomed back a lot of 'occasional visitors' and we hope to see them all again soon.
Today's comp was a new one for Amigos with a relatively simple Pairs & Team Betterball Bogey competition with the most complex element being how we managed to get 8 sets of prize-winners 😁. Each 4-man team consisted of 2 pairs and each team was placed into Category 1 or 2 based on the team's total shot allowance (Cat 1 = 52-60, Cat 2 = 73-85). The 2 lowest handicap players in each team formed 'Pair 1' and the 2 highest handicap players formed 'Pair 2' in each team. So how did the scoring go?
Overall Team scores were pretty good but 2 teams in each category stood out from the rest and took the prizes:
Category 1:
Winners: Team 6 with +12: Colin Walters, Sergio Petruzziello, Steve Jones & Andy Duffield.
Second Place: Team 10 with +11: Brian Platt, Stephen Day, Ron Weller & Poul Friis Hansen.
Category 2:
Winners: Team 3 with +13: Emmett Loftus, Graham Bathurst, Graham Platts & Brian Stobbs.
Second Place: Team 2 with +12: Andy Wasik, John Burgess, Dave Cheney & Ken Sewell.

In the Pairs competition things were much closer with prizes going to the best 'Pair 1' & 'Pair 2' in each category
Category 1:
Pair 1 Winners: Brian Platt & Stephen Day with +4 (on lower handicap).
Pair 2 Winners: Steve Jones & Andy Duffield with +8.
Category 2:
Pair 1 Winners: Andy Wasik & John Burgess with +8.
Pair 2 Winners: Rick Sorsby & John Fox with +6 (on lower handicap).

Our sharp shooters with the NTP awards at Alicante were: Andy Wasik (Holes 6 & 18), Colin Walters (Hole 10) & John Boyle (Hole 12). Four 2's were scored today, so congratulations go to: David Henshall-Brown (Hole 8), Gail Duffield (Hole 12), Graham Platts (Hole 17) & Iain Stewart (Hole 17).

This week also marked the end of the first 2023 Order or Merit competition and our winners were announced. Congratulations go to both our Division 1 Winner - Andy Wasik (153pts) and our Division 2 Winner - Simon Hastings (145pts). Full details of everyone's performance in the 2023-1 Order of Merit competition are currently available on the website.

As you all were probably aware, we lost Dave Robinson Snr last week and his funeral was well attended on Sunday. Dave was one of the original Amigos and will be sadly missed by all of his many golfing, eating & drinking friends. Thank you all for observing the short period of respect today in his honour - much appreciated.

On a happier note, our next game is next Thursday at El Valle where we have a 'full house' of 52 players and a sizeable reserve list, however, things can change quickly so if you haven't booked but would like to play the let me know asap as the initial start sheet will be released this weekend. That is followed by a trip to Altaona the following week and the same comments apply, but possibly a little more chance for 'late additions' there.
