In our ‘Accident and Emergency Society that Plays Golf’ there are so many Amigos waiting for or recovering from replacement surgery or other operations that it is quite unprecedented but we do wish everyone the very best, whatever state they are in, and a speedy return to Amigos golf!

We have seen an increase in withdrawals and cancellations over the last few months of 2024 and many after Start Sheets have been published.  Sometimes these are unavoidable but we would like to see less late pullouts as it really does involve a lot of Organiser time and considerable inconvenience to your fellow Amigos.

For those who might not be aware we do have Virtual Honours Boards on the website (under the 'HOME PAGE' tab, where all of your important successes are recorded so do take a look. It is currently hidden until the Roda event.

We really look forward to our Anniversary Cup Away Day to La Envia, Wellness and Golf Hotel, Vicar, Almería on 22/23 May’25. The costs have now been finalised at €240,00 per golfer and €145 per non-golfer. There is still time to be included but please do check out all of the details on the website soon.

We are attracting more and more golfers who want to play with us so it is essential that you book earliest and as soon as you know your travel plans to Spain in order not to be disappointed. Some tough decisions will have to be made for the more popular courses and that may include some regulars!

The Race to La Finca is now complete and the prize winners will be announced at Roda Golf on 23 Jan’25. Detailed evaluation, confirmation of prizes and availability of Organisers and potential prize winners all need to be time considered.

It is always pleasing to recognise our Amigos golfing efforts and triumphs and cite Dave Robinson and Liz Murty, our Platinum Property Order of Merit winners for the period Sep-Dec’24. Many congratulations, particularly to Liz for back to back wins, and imagine what she could have achieved without a broken hand!

We have simplified the registration process and tightened up the Have I booked process so that it will be easier for you to check on your status. It will be updated far more regularly and should provide more of a convenient check and particularly for our more aging Amigos 😂!

There will be a few changes starting from 1st January 25 regarding booking Amigos games. The form will get smaller / simpler but you will need to use one form for each golfer. No need to worry about already booked 'extra players' as we will sort those out.

Our Amigos Race to La Finca Golf Party is on Friday 27 Dec’24 and promises to be quite an event culminating in the Grand Prize for the year long Competition. Whilst most of you are very helpful we do receive withdrawals upon issue of our Start Sheets which causes us so many problems finding replacements, not to mention Costings changes and Golf Course re-submissions and confirmations. 🙏

The registrations for both Amigos Golfers and non-Golfers for our planned Anniversary Cup Away Day to La Envia, Almeria has fired your imaginations and numbers registered so far indicate that it is going to be another awesome and well supported excursion! Many of the remaining Competitions for this year are at capacity but don’t be deterred just send an email to register your interest and we will add your names to a reserve list. We usually have many changes before game day so the chances of playing remain high.

The 2024 Race to La Finca Competition is building up but with four months to go there is still time to make a statement, just play as many remaining games as you can

Most of you have gotten used to making Bank Transfers for our regular games which has been most helpful in reducing cash handling which in turn reduces checking in time and allows us to concentrate more on golf issues and service.

Whilst there are unexpected cancellations it would help our Start Sheet preparations if you would always check your bookings (Registration Receipt or Have I Booked?) and avoid cancelling after the Start Sheet has been published on the Sunday as it plays havoc with planning & Communication

Congratulations to our RtLF July monthly winner, Brian Fitzsimmons with 42 points and the 3 runner-up: Tony Foster, Graeme Bradbury & Andy Reeves (each with 41 points). All the monthly winners in July only played a single game in that month.

Apologies but, due to almost all the Amigos Organisers being away, it has proved necessary to cancel the planned Torre Pacheco game on 8th August.

It has become clear that the player split across the three table tiers will need a slight tweak to balance them better and this will be done with the July results. Nobody will lose or gain any points in this tweak.

Congratulations to our JUNE Race to La Finca prize winners: Carolus Brand 1st = 41pts, Tiina Hurst 2nd = 40 pts & Dave Hughes 3rd (on more games played) = 38pts.

The game scheduled for 15th August has been cancelled as many Amigos are 'on tour' in Ireland (including almost all organisers).

Some of you may have noticed that the 'Race to La Finca' tables seemed a little odd. I have found a bug that was incorrectly showing the Tier 3 scores and also I have done some work in tidying the other tables. The Monthly results were not impacted but I will keep monitoring things as we may want to review the Tier 3 / Tier 2 split criteria.

Last year’s Amigos v Golden Bear Matchplay event was so successful that we have repeated the competition this year. Please register as usual through the Amigos booking page. There will be an evening dinner with entertainment details of which will be announced soon but the golf is confirmed at LO ROMERO!

Following the disappointment of the cancellation of the Amigos v Sucina Golf Society Matchplay competition last year it will not be continued in 2024. However, Las Ramblas has been booked for quite some time and we are proposing a Platinum Property FOURS Competition to replace same on Saturday 30 Nov’24. More details will follow later in the year.

For those of you who like your golf at a slightly higher level than Amigos then the LIV TOUR visits Valderama on 12-14 July. If you want to see the likes of John Rahm and co. showing you how to play proper golf then do visit!

Your take up of the Spanish Federation ‘Licence to Play Golf in Spain’ has been very encouraging but for those yet to heed the recommendations please do so and if you need any advice please ask us.

Due to a GNK Competition, 2 x Amigos fixtures at the end of the year have been reversed. Thursday 31 Oct’24 will now be at El Valle and Thursday 05 Dec’24 at Hacienda Riquelme.

It’s great to receive so many new enquiries for Amigos Golf Membership and from all different areas. If the popular times and courses are showing fully booked remember to let us know as we can add you to a reserve list, there are always one or two withdrawals nearer the competition times.

The final Order of Merit for 2023 has now been completed and full results will be announced at the end of the year.

From January 2024, we will be launching the new Callaway Tournament golf shirts (€35). The shirts are the same colour as previously, dual branded with the Amigos & Platinum Properties logos. Callaway are stopping the RED variant in the Swingtech style and unfortunately are also stopping the 'Ladies Sleeveless' shirt in all ranges.

For 2024 we will be moving from the Vice balls to MYNT Ambition Tour balls for our Individual Winners prizes. These are still high quality 3 piece balls but we get a great deal from MYNT so will have a little more money to go into the prizes pot each week.

We have been advised by two prominent Golf Courses to beware of petty theft from unattended golf bags. PLEASE do look after all of your belongings, golf clubs, wallets, purses, bags, etc. especially before your tee time, afterwards whilst in the Bar, and YES, even when on the course.

As we head towards Autumn’s High Season Golf Competitions would all AMIGOS please check their registrations as your circumstances may have changed and require updating. This serves two purpose in that it will allow others to play if you cannot make it and it minimises disruptions to Start Sheet preparation and issues.

We are well into AMIGO’S SUMMER SWING and are delighted to see so many of you at our competitions held on some of the best courses in the area with green fees at amazing value for money rates. A first for Amigos. Please join us for GOLF and LUNCH at TORRE PACHECO on Thursday 03 Aug’23. 18 Holes (Twice around) on this Par 3 gem in Torre Pacheco followed by lunch on the Terrace. It’s well worth trying, both for fun and to test your short game. So much so that a competition rule will be to have only 3 clubs and a putter!

What a magnificent turnout at Villamartin on 16 Jun’23 from all of you AMIGOS in support of the GOLDEN BEAR v AMIGOS Anniversary Competition. Thank you all for playing in whichever Team. Unfortunately, the result did not go in our favour of Amigos albeit we came very very close, just being pipped on overall holes won.

Amigos will present a ‘Menu del Dia Lunch with Golf’ at the excellent Torre Pacheco Par 3 Golf Course and on site Manoli Restaurant when it’s too hot for a full 18 hole trek on our golf courses. It’s a first for us and one to put in your golf diary.

It is with immense sadness that we announce the loss of one of the founder members of HR Amigos. Dave Robinson snr died today in Arrixaca hospital. Although now an occasional player with Amigos he will be sadly missed by many whom he has know for a very long time. Our thoughts & condolences go to Dave's family at this difficult time.

Demand to play in Amigos competitions has been overwhelming and is very flattering. Thank you for your support and patience in waiting to congratulate the winners at the prize ceremonies. Congrats to Rob Henshaw on getting his 1st Hole-in-One at yesterday's HRGS game. It wasn't in an Amigos game so it doesn't quite squeeze Rob onto the Amigos Honours board but a fantastic achievement - WELL DONE ROB 👍

The planned game on 1st June has been moved from Hacienda del Alamo to Saurines so Amigos don't lose the opportunity to play there this year.

Due to the fact that Mar Menor currently only has 9-holes open and we would have had to play that circuit twice, we have moved our 23/3 game from Mar Menor to La Serena. No need to rebook as your booking will be automatically moved but do let us know if you want to cancel.

Due to maintenance work being scheduled at La Serena on 11/6 we have moved that game to Altaona. No need to rebook as they will automatically be transferred, but please do cancel your booking if you do not want to play there.

When making your payment for the Anniversary Cup, please ensure you add MOJACAR & <<YOUR NAME>> onto the reference section of your bank payment. We have already received 1 payment where we have no idea as to whom it relates.

It is with great sadness that we confirm the loss of one of our Amigos. Stephen Hurst passed away after a long battle with illness, on 17th January. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to Tiina at this difficult time.

Many congratulations go to our Amigos Order of Merit winners for the period 01 Sep’22-31 Dec’22. KERSTEN RAMMELOO, Category 1 and HAROLD ‘H’ CLARKE, Category 2. We do take our Individual Golf seriously and these guys played exceptional and consistent golf throughout the 4 month period.

As we grow, with start sheets of 40-48 players more regularly we do appreciate your patience whilst waiting for everyone to complete their games! We will try and move you around earlier or later in rotation.

The Amigos Ryder Cup will be held at Las Colinas in September and the Glitter Ball proved that we have selected the right venue for golf, food and drink with an excellent golf course and service that everyone appreciated! Register for that one soonest it is getting very busy!

We were delighted to present to you the Amigos GLITTER BALL, a great occasion to end the year and judging by your participation and thank you letters it was very well received and we will do it again at Roda Golf next December.

In order to be far more efficient and eliminate confusions when preparing start sheets and scorecards it is essential that we have your most updated information on our database so please let us know if you change your membership status, buggy requirements, Federation Insurance, etc. It is very Important.

Amigos encourage everyone to pay their green fees, buggy costs, prize monies and membership fees by Bank Transfer (except for when we play GNK courses) before they play their Thursday competitions. This is intended to make it far more convenient for both yourselves and the Organisers. It is a development that many Societies are introducing.

It is likely that the golf courses we play will routinely ask for your Spain Federation membership card and insurance as we go into the future so do be prepared. It represents good value for money if you play regularly so maybe think about it? Ask at the GNK pro shop how you register.

GOOD NEWS : Amigos will maintain annual membership fees to the Society at €10,00 per person from 01 Jan’23. This will be a ‘one-off’ payment no matter how many competitions are played. Guest fees will be charged at €10,00 per game from 01 Jan’23 to 30 Sep’23 and €5,00 thereafter until the end of the year

GNK have decided to keep the Alhama Signature course open over the winter months so we have decided to re-instigate our visit on 8/12/22 that was temporarily moved to La Torre.

If you are returning to Spain after a long break during which you have played 6 or more WHS qualifying rounds then please advise us of your current WHS value as we may need to update our Handicap Master records before you next play with us or HRGS.

GNK are looking to sell the Alhama Signature course and it will be unavailable for bookings from 1st December 2022. If you fancy what might be a last round on that course for some time then get there before the end of November.

The 'Bank Prepayment' method was very successfully tested at our Alenda game. Watch out for this option being available at a number of our future games, it makes life easier for everyone.

Due to your overwhelming support, Amigos are planning to have another ‘Away Day’ with stopover on Thursday/Friday 25/26 May’23. An announcement will be made shortly with more details but keep those dates free.

With the ever expanding applications to join and play golf with Amigos we are reaching our limit and there will be some disappointments for some high season or high profile games in the future. We urge you to register as soon as you possibly can to reduce the risk of missing out.

CONGRATULATIONS to Phil Brookes on retaining the Anniversary Cup with a magnificent 'best score' of 40 points. Other par beating scores were 39 points from Ken Sewell, 38 points from Graham Field and 37 points from Colin Aves, Nigel Smith & Harry Rice.

Congratulations to Charlie & Jacqui Lumsden for their excellent performance in the 'Anniversary Cup' Friday 9-hole Pairs Texas with a score of 32.9. Second place went to the 3-ball team of: Alastair Sporne, John Mair & Dave Cheney scoring 33.4 and third place went to Brian Platt & Jeremy Pike scoring 34.3.

Following a recent notification that La Marquesa will be hollow-tineing their greens on 6th June, we have delayed our visit there until the 26th June and we are endeavouring to reschedule the 12th June game to occur at Hacienda Riquelme.

Amigos game scheduled for Alhama Signature on 25/8 now relocated to Saurines. We will recommence fixtures at Alhama Signature later in the year when we are confident the course is in a good playing condition.

From 1st May many people will have slightly changed handicaps. This is because we have upgraded the Handicap Master software and henceforth will use the same calculations to derive player handicaps as the World Handicap System. There is now likely to be much more changeability in your handicap based on your scoring due to the different calculations used.

The Bar/Restaurant at Saurines has now reopened and you have somewhere to sit and relax with a cold beer in hand after your round! They also have a snack menu which is available all day. Opening hours are from 08.00 – 21.00 and later at weekends

We have started work on upgrading the HR Golf Handicap Master system and from 1st May we will be using the same calculation methods to adjust handicaps as the World Handicap System uses. These may mean some players handicaps move (up or down) but more info in the next 2 weeks.

Some of you may have heard that this past weekend the clubhouses at La Torre and Hacienda Riquelme started opening their doors at 8:00. GNK Golf has arranged an agreement with Lots Murcia where the clubhouse will open at 8:00 to allow golfers to use the restroom facilities and get coffee.

24th March Amigos game at Saurines has been cancelled due to the terrible weather and the fact that 4 Amigos have now tested positive for Covid and are isolating following the GB event. It is not known where the virus was contracted but clearly lots of Amigos were also at that GB event so gathering together may not be advisable under the circumstances.

Due to a charity event at El Valle followed by Hollow Tineing & Maintenance activity at the end of August, we have changed 2 of our venues: 25/8 now at Alhama Signature & 1/9 now at La Torre.

Huge congratulations to Josie Aves on her Hole-in-One on the 5th at Hacienda Riquelme in the Amigos game on 10th March 2022. Josie joins Eddie Murty as our only 'Single Shotters' within an Amigos Game.

Amigos game on 10/3 now to be played at HR and not La Torre due to a mix-up with GNK. Low season rate has been extended for HR so non-member walking rate is €39 & €44 in a shared Buggy.
